Book Review| The Golden Braid  by Melanie Dickerson On The Back: The one who needs rescuing isn’t always the one in the tower. Rapunzel can throw a knife better than any man. She paints beautiful flowering vines on the walls of her plaster houses. She sings so sweetly she can coax even a beast to sleep. But there are two things she is afraid her mother might never allow her to do: learn to read and marry. Fiercely devoted to Rapunzel, her mother is suspicious of every man who so much as looks at her daughter and warns her that no man can be trusted. After a young village farmer asks for Rapunzel's hand in marriage, Mother decides to move them once again—this time, to the large city of Hagenheim. The journey proves treacherous, and after being rescued by a knight—Sir Gerek—Rapunzel in turn rescues him farther down the road. As a result, Sir Gerek agrees to repay his debt to Rapunzel by teaching her to read. Could there be more to this knight than his arrogance and desire to m...

Book Review: Pride and Prejudice|HonestlySpeakingonBooks

Book Review: Pride and Prejudice                            by Jane Austen   For a very, very long time I have been wanting to read this notorious classic, and now I’ve finally done it! Wooh! Not to be dramatic, but I felt like it was necessary for me to read this book, especially since I love the romance genre. This book has received so many good reviews and is highly praised and recommended by the majority of its readers. It doesn’t really need another review but I thought I would just leave this here, in case anyone wanted to hear my opinion. This is my review on Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.   The Cover:      My Review: I won’t give a short summary of the book like I normally do with my reviews because I don’t think it’s necessary considering how widely known it is. I just wanted to share my thoughts on it (in...

Book Review: For Love & Honor by Jody Hedlund|Honestlyspeakingonbooks

Book Review: For Love & Honor by Jody                            Hedlund   For Love & Honor was one of the first books that I read when I had just started reading romance. I was very new to this type of writing and immediately fell in love with the “Noble Knights” series, especially this particular book. As I had only read it in an ebook format, I resolved that I would one day acquire a printed copy. Three years later and my wish has now been fulfilled! I enjoyed it a lot more the first time I’d read it and it didn’t quite fascinate me much this time around. I still found it to be a lovely story that I would be happy to read again! This is my review on For Love & Honor by Jody Hedlund. On The Back: Lady Sabine is harboring a skin blemish, one, that if revealed, could cause her to be branded as a witch, put her life in dang...

Book Review: Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano|HonestlySpeakingOnBooks

Book Review: Diamond in the Rough                                by Jen Turano   I devoured this book on impulse because the cover was just so beautiful (although my dad didn’t think so) and because I’ve been wanting to read one of Jen Turano’s creations for quite a while especially after reading the many glowing reports on her work. I didn’t bother to read the first book of the series as I thought I’d be fine without it and I don’t think it would’ve affected my reading too much even if I had. Isadora Delafield from Flights of Fancy is mentioned once or twice but only in passing. Although I had had high hopes which weren’t met in the end, the story was quite sweet and cute with the usual happy ending. This is my review on Diamond in the Rough by Jen Turano. On The Back:    When Miss Poppy Garrison accepts her grandmother's offer of financial help for her family in exch...

Book Review: We Have a Plan|Honestlyspeakingonbooks

Book Review: We Have a Plan                           by Gregory Ulseth   Although I’m definitely not a fan of Dystopian Sci-fi, I let myself put that fact aside and decided to try We Have a Plan . The author, Gregory Ulseth, had reached out to me with a review request which I obviously accepted. I was happy to review this book especially since it came from an indie author with religious background. Without any knowledge of what to expect, I started to read. It took me a little while to “get into” it but I did eventually become interested later in the story. This is my review on We Have a Plan by Gregory Ulseth.   On The Back: The mission was to salvage the society we once held dear and eliminate religious and underclass oppression. The plan was to build strength through the subterranean network of outlawed religious institutions and high-tech paramilitary powers to infiltrate and to gather ass...

Book Review: A Portrait of Loyalty|HonestlySpeakingOnBooks

Book Review: A Portrait of Loyalty                             by Roseanna M. White There isn’t much of a backstory as to how I ended up reading this novel.  It was the last book in the The Codebreakers series and I had to read it because that’s what series do to you. The cover is amazing but of course, that’s a given from White.  I hadn’t any real expectations for this book. I did have a confidence that it would as perfect as the previous ones in the series but I wasn’t overly excited about it and yet, it was excellent! I was easily able to relate with characters, especially since the heroine is an artist (in photography, of course). This book did not disappoint and my respect for White continues to grow! This is my review on A Portrait of Loyalty by Roseanna M. White. On The Back: Zivon Marin was one of Russia's top crypt...

Book Review: A Love Divided by Belle McInnes|HonestlySpeakingonBooks

Book Review: A Love Divided by Belle McInnes   A Love Divided is a Scottish historical novel which is the first book in a series revolving around Mary, queen of Scots called Mary’s Ladies . I’d never heard of this series before but I stumbled upon it a couple of days ago and finally got down to reading it! This is my review on A Love Divided by Belle McInnes.   On The Back: Mary Queen of Scots is on the throne, and the frontier between England and Scotland is a powder-keg. A feisty English heiress... More interested in raiding into Scotland with the rest of her clan than womanly pursuits like embroidery or finding a husband, Alexandra Graham is a strong-minded English heiress who rides and fights as well as any man. But when a daring rescue goes wrong, she ends up in the dungeons of Scotland's most forbidding castle, prisoner of the notorious Earl of Bothwell and at the mercy of the queen's justice. A brawny Scottish laird... As deputy warden responsible...
