Book Review: Pride and Prejudice
by Jane Austen
For a very, very long time I have been wanting to read this notorious classic, and now I’ve finally done it! Wooh!
Not to be dramatic, but I felt like it was necessary for me to read this book, especially since I love the romance genre. This book has received so many good reviews and is highly praised and recommended by the majority of its readers.
It doesn’t really need another review but I thought I would just leave this here, in case anyone wanted to hear my opinion.
This is my review on Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

My Review:
I won’t give a short summary of the book like I normally do with my reviews because I don’t think it’s necessary considering how widely known it is. I just wanted to share my thoughts on it (in case anyone cared....) and record my feelings for future-me.
Anyway.
I really enjoyed this book even though, I do have to admit, it didn’t really meet my expectations.
I’d already read an abridged version when I was around 10-11 years old and so I knew quite a bit of the plot already. That may have been the reason why I wasn’t amazed or excited by the events in the book.
I wasn’t surprised by a lot of the twists and turns the story took which probably would’ve made it a lot more interesting had I not been prepared for them.
In that case, it’s pretty much my own fault if I didn’t appreciate the plot to its full extent. And for that I feel deep regret (lol).
The characters were fun to read, though Mrs. Bennet and Lydia annoyed me greatly and I wished with all my heart that they would JUST. SHUT. UP.
I personally think that that’s a point in Austen’s favour because irritating people do exist and she certainly did a good job of portraying them.
My favorite characters were Mr. Bennet and Jane.
Mr. Bennet because he was sarcastic, even though he wasn’t the world’s best father, and I strongly believe he should be admired for being the husband of Mrs. Bennet.
Jane was such a sweetheart! (EEE!!)
I love Jane. An incredibly sweet, optimistic character. The romance with Bingley was also adorable.
As for Elizabeth and Darcy. Hmm...
They may be the main characters, but I wasn’t completely in love with them or their romance.
I just felt it was lacking.
I will say this though: It’s been a long time since I’ve felt bad for the male lead. And Darcy received my heartfelt pity.
I guess I was just hoping that the romance would be better...? I don’t know?
My greatest disappointment was the dialogue.
It was just paragraphs of formal speech that I didn’t enjoy at all. Maybe they did speak that way in those days but I’m just not a fan.
Anyway, moving on.
The story was fairly enjoyable even if it wasn’t my cup of tea. I can see why it’s so praised and raved about. The plot is great. The romance was, in my opinion, not so great.
I’m not a Jane Austen fan and don’t think I ever will be but I will recommend this book to anyone and everyone if only for them to meet Mr. And Mrs. Bennet.
